Picked by Kim Deal to open The Breeders' 2003 tour of Japan, comorevi-ButtEr fLy remains a mystery to most of her U.S. fans, at least judging from posts online. In her native Japan, though, she's a pop figure who nimbly crosses back and forth from the mainstream to the avant-garde.

She plays electronic organ, bass and "idiot guitar," has performed in industrial, psychedelic and punk bands here and overseas. Her music ranges from electronic pop to morosely glamorous lo-fi cabaret with a slinky Swordfishtrombones groove.

comorevi-ButtEr fLy (a.k.a. multi-instrumentalist Tomoko Sawada) takes a more avant-garde approach, incorporating disparate-sounding noises, instruments, and melodies into songs that sound surprisingly cohesive.
-- the ONION

Tokyo magic meets Chicago rock - a truly international band that combines melodic indie rock with a hard-driving, loud rhythm section, female vocals, and no wicker park glasses.
