第1話：バスケとコーヒーのあいだで
Behind the Panels｜Sporty Coffeeな午後
Do my eyes deceive me? A sports cafe? After lunch, I was wandering in search of coffee when I spotted what looked like a sports gear shop. I hesitated at the entrance—was this really a place to grab a drink, or was I about to embarrass myself like a clueless tourist? But to my relief, inside was Sporty Coffee—a full-on sports apparel shop with a cozy little seating area tucked to the side.
えっ、目の錯覚？スポーツカフェ？
ランチのあと、コーヒーでも飲もうとぶらぶらしてたら、スポーツ用品店っぽいお店を発見。入り口でちょっと迷った。「ここって本当に飲み物あるの？間違えて入ったら観光客丸出しじゃん…」って。でも意を決して入ってみたら、なんとそこは「Sporty Coffee」。ちゃんとしたスポーツアパレルの店なんだけど、隅っこに小さなカフェスペースがある、ちょっと変わったお店だった。
Among racks of fresh sportswear and displays of basketball memorabilia—plushies of famous players, original art, even a plant pot shaped like a basketball—I found myself easing into a seat. It’s not often you see doughnuts and jerseys sharing the same space.
中はというと、新品のスポーツウェアが並んでたり、バスケのグッズが飾ってあったり。ぬいぐるみやイラスト、バスケットボール型の植木鉢まであって、めちゃくちゃ遊び心ある感じ。そんな空間に座って、なんだか不思議と落ち着いてる自分がいた。ドーナツとジャージが同じ空間にあるって、よく考えるとちょっとおもしろいよね。
I initially asked for a hot chocolate, but they didn’t have any. There goes my confidence. The barista quickly offered a smile and a suggestion: their signature “Milo Mocha,” made with Milo powder.
ホットチョコレートを頼もうとしたんだけど、あいにく置いてなくてちょっとしょんぼり。でもバリスタさんがすぐ笑顔で「ミロモカ」っていうドリンクをおすすめしてくれた。ミロの粉を使ったモカで、飲んでみたらこれが意外とアリ。モルトの甘さとコーヒーがいいバランスで、ちょっとクセになりそう。
I’m not a sporty person myself, but sipping that malted coffee drink while surrounded by basketball culture gave me a glimpse into another world. On dad duty, my wife chuckled as I fed our son and fuelled myself simultaneously — both with powdered drinks, funnily enough! Unexpected, charming, and full of surprises, Sporty Coffee turned out to be just the break we needed.
僕自身は全然スポーツ系じゃないんだけど、バスケの世界に囲まれながらこのドリンクを飲んでると、なんだか新しい世界にちょっとだけ足を踏み入れた気分。
息子にミルクを飲ませながら、自分も粉末ドリンクでエネルギーチャージしてるっていうのも、なんかおかしくて笑えた。妻もそれ見てクスクス笑ってたし。
思いがけず立ち寄った「Sporty Coffee」、ちょっとした冒険みたいで、いい気分転換になったなあ。
